Suspect arrested after officers thwart robbery in progress

Police say a robbery suspect is in custody after Philadelphia officers stopped the crime in progress in the city's Crescentville neighborhood.

Police responded to a call on the 500 block of Adams Avenue when they saw a man armed with a rifle behind the register of the store.

The suspect attempted to flee on foot, but officers eventually found him hiding in the wooded area behind the shopping complex. Officers also recovered the rifle. According to police, they arrested a male identified as 43-year-old Rodney Carroll and charged him with Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Violation of the Uniform Firearm Act, and related offenses.

Police say the suspect took $600 from the register, as well as contents from a safe inside the store.
