Two Berks County Schools Evacuated

A high school in Exeter Township, Berks County, was evacuated Tuesday due to a bomb threat.

Meanwhile, Alvernia University, also in Reading, announced Tuesday that it was evacuating, due to a "safety threat," which has since been resolved.

According to a note to parents and students from Exeter Township Senior High School Principal Bill Cain, the school received a threat indicating a bomb in building at noon today. Due to the threat, students were dismissed from school at 11 a.m., with students leaving via normal bus transportation.

All evening events in the building were cancelled as well, with a lockdown going into effect through Wednesday morning. Then, the school will conduct visual bag checks as students enter. Students have been advised to carry only those items that are essential for school.

Those with information are asked to contact Exeter police at 610-779-1940.
