Vigil held for teen struck, killed by car
NEW JERSEY (WTXF) Several hundred mourners gathered Thursday evening at an outdoor basketball court in Burlington City, NJ to say goodbye to a young man gone far too soon.
Antwan Timbers, Jr. died just after midnight Sunday, when he was struck by an allegedly drunk driver while walking along Route 130 near Federal st.
"I know that the God I serve is going to see you through," said service co-organizer Tikeisha Davis to mourners, including Timber's parents. "Take it one second at a time."
Balloons were released in tribute to Timbers, a member of the ROTC at Burlington City high school who hoped to serve in the military.
Timbers' father, Antwan Sr., recounted a conversation he had with his son, two days after the teen's death.
"'I'm good dad- I'm at peace.'" Timbers quoted his son to the hushed crowd.
"'You really made me And the rest of the family proud when you were here,'" Timbers said he told his son.
"'So long and I love you.'"
The driver of the vehicle that struck Timbers, 42-year-old Ricardo Patterson, of Wlingboro, was issued a summons for DUI and reckless driving. Pending toxicology results on his blood, criminal charges could be filed.
Funeral and burial for Timbers are set for next Wednesday at the Tabernacle Baptist church in Burlington City.
