Vineland softball team enjoys victory parade after World Series win

Sirens blared and horns honked Thursday evening as firefighters and police led the Vineland Pigtail 14U Softball Team on a victory parade through the city after winning the Babe Ruth World Series last week in Florida.

The team road on a float with its trophy and victory banner while throwing out beads and candy to residents who lined the streets.

"We were all really emotional," right-fielder Brazil Hatcher explained. "Because you wouldn't expect a small town like Vineland NJ girls to win such a big thing."

Team Manager Bobby Dickenson put the win into context for us.

"The team we beat actually beat us in pool play game, so we got some sweet revenge against Longwood, Florida," he said. "And we beat them two-nothing, so it was great."

The parade ended at city hall where the mayor, council and state representatives presented the entire team with various awards.

In return, the team presented the mayor with a World Series ball signed by each one of them.
