Wilmington house fire displaces 6, injures 1 firefighter

A house fire in Wilmington displaces six adults and injures one firefighter.

Firefighters were called to the 400 block of South Van Buren Street Saturday morning, just before noon for a residential fire.

According to officials, when firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke billowing from the two story row home.

Crews were able to get the fire under control quickly. Officials say the fire was contained to the point of origin, a rear bedroom on the second floor. After a thorough search of the residence, they found no one inside.

A firefighter sustained a leg injury during the struggle to get the fire under control. That firefighter was transported to Wilmington Hospital for treatment. There were no other reported injuries.

The Red Cross was contacted for the occupants of the home who are displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
