The 76-year-old man, identified as Walter J. Blucas, of Erie, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital for treatment and is listed in critical condition.
Investigators say a faulty flue and exhaust pipe on a gas heating system caused the carbon monoxide to be released into the home.
Two medics and a police officer were treated for carbon monoxide exposure.
