Family: Frank Gifford Had Brain Condition

Frank Gifford's family has announced that the football legend, who died earlier this year, suffered form the brain condition chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a progressive degenerative brain disease often associated with concussions in former football players.

Gifford died in August at the age of 84 and after his death, his family had his brain studied.

The family statement, issued by NBC, employer of Gifford's wife Kathie Lee, stated that Gifford was long a champion of player safety and in his later years had closely followed issues involving the brain health of athletes.

The Gifford family also said that they will continue to support the NFL, while advocating for rule changes that promote player safety.
