Red Sox double Dodgers 8-4 at Fenway Park in World Series Game 1

BOSTON (AP) - The World Series opens in October chill on Tuesday night, with Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw pitching at Fenway Park for the first time and facing a Red Sox team that had the best record in baseball.

Andrew Benintendi singled to drive home Mookie Betts, putting the Red Sox on the board, followed by a J.D. Martinez single that scored Benintendi, giving the Red Sox a 2-0 lead over the Dodgers in the first inning.

Matt Kemp put the Dodgers on the board with a solo home run in the top of the 2nd inning.

A Manny Machado single scored Justin Machado to tie the game a 2-2 in the top of the third inning.

The Red Sox regained the lead 3-2 when Martinez hit a double to score Steve Pearce.

Brian Dozier scored on a Machado ground out to tie the game again at 3-3 in the top of the 5th inning.

Betts scored on a Xander Bogaerts force out to give the Red Sox a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 5th inning. Benintendi then scored on a Rafael Devers single to extend the Red Sox lead to 5-3.

Max Muncy scored on a Machado sacrifice fly to bring the Dodgers closer, narrowing the Red Sox lead to 5-4.

With a 3-run home run, Eduardo Nuñez extended the Red Sox lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning.
