Reports: Eagles cut RB Ryan Mathews following physical

The Philadelphia Eagles have cut former starting running back Ryan Mathews after he passed a physical following a lengthy neck issue according to reports.

Mathews joined the team as a free agent in 2015.

The former first round pick led the Eagles in rushing in 2015 with 661 yards on 155 attempts. He also scored a career high 8 rushing touchdowns.

Mathews played in 26 total games over two years with the Eagles.

Cutting Mathews leaves the Eagles with LeGarrete Blount, Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood, rookie Donnel Pumphrey, and undrafted free agent signing Corey Clement holding down the running back position.
