3 shot outside Uno Pizzeria near Widener University in Chester: police

Three people were shot outside an UNO Pizzeria near Widener University on Wednesday night, according to police. Officers say the shooting left a woman and a 17-year-old boy among the injured, and the investigation is ongoing.

What we know:

Police say three people were injured in the shooting, including a woman who was shot in the upper body and a 17-year-old boy. 

The scene was active for hours after the shooting, with investigators working late into the night. 

The restaurant is located near Widener’s campus.

Neighbors describe the scene and aftermath 

Residents say they were surprised by the violence, describing the area as usually quiet. 

"Towards like violence or anything around this area, none. I’ve been here for over 11 years, so I haven’t experienced none of that until last night," said Jackie Cooley Jr., who lives by UNO. 

"I heard it go like *multiple gun sounds*," said Neveada Coles, who lives by UNO. 

Coles said at first she thought she heard fireworks, but then realized it was gunshots when she saw police lights. 

"But then after I it stopped, I said, ‘No that’s gunshots.’ I happened to see the blue and red lights, which was the cop cars," said Coles. 

Coles said she was surprised by the shooting and had not seen UNO Pizzeria as a problem spot before. 

"No, no, no. That’s why I was surprised last night. But I heard that it was a celebration over there for graduation," said Coles. 

A spokesperson for Widener University said, "Widener University is aware of the incident Wednesday night outside the Pizzeria Uno on Providence Avenue in Chester. City police are investigating and the university is fully cooperating with the department. All questions should be directed to law enforcement."

Residents expressed concern about safety in the neighborhood. "It’s just so sad that you just can’t have a good time getting together," said Coles. 

"This is the first time that we’ve really had this kind of violence in the neighborhood," said Cooley Jr.

Police have not shared information about suspects, arrests, any possible motive, or the current conditions of the victims.
