CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.J. (WTXF) - Authorities in Cumberland County have arrested and charged four people in connection with the murder of a youth football coach back in August.
Around 8:15 p.m. August 9, members of the Millville Midget League Football Team were dispersing from the field behind Lakeside Middle School when 37-year-old Joseph Jones was shot and killed.
Thursday, authorities announced they had arrested and charged Eugene Cosby, 42, and Will El-Bey, 22, with homicide and conspiracy to commit homicide in Jones' death. Additional, Genea Hughes-Lee, 34, and Tyrell Hart, 22, were arrested and charged with conspiracy to hinder apprehension, hindering apprehension and related charges.
Officials say the arrests came as a result of a two-month-long joint investigation.
"This homicide was particularly unsettling because it was committed in broad daylight at a football practice field in front of numerous children," said Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae, "It is my hope that these arrests assure the victim's family, the children, and parents of the Millville Midget Football League and the greater community that law enforcement will do all in its power to bring those we allege are responsible to justice.
