Dad shot to death, stepmom critically wounded in front of kids

There was a horrific and tragic scene, overnight, when two men broke into a Hunting Park home and demanded money.

When they were done, they'd shot 36-year-old Hakim Rahman in his abdomen in front of some of his six children in the back second floor bedroom. Those children are between the ages of 5 to 13 years old. Their father was pronounced dead at the scene.

The gunmen also shot the victim's 40-year-old wife, who is the children's stepmother. Her name has not been released.

She was wounded multiple times and is in critical condition with part of her face, including her jaw, blown off.

She actually directed officers to her husband.

Police say the trouble started just before 1am in the 3700 block of N. 7th Street. They responded to a radio call about a "Person with a Gun."

The gunmen may have broken in through a kitchen window. At least one was wearing a mask.

Later, police found a canvas bag containing a box of 12 gauge shotgun shells as well as loose shells, plus a sawed-off shotgun and mask in the back alley.

They told FOX 29's Dave Kinchen there had been home invasions in the city overnight, but this is being considered a separate, isolated incident at this time.

They also said Rahman may have known his killer.
