Flooding damages South Philly school leading to early dismissal
SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Video from inside the Academy at Palumbo School in South Philly provided by the Philadelphia Inquirer shows the damage left behind after heavy rains caused part of the roof to collapse flooding a section of the school.
Officials say it happened over the weekend causing damage to areas on the 12th Street side of the building.
The principal sent out a letter to parents Tuesday stating for safety reasons students received lunch and were then dismissed between 12:40 and 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.
On the district's website a message said prior to early dismissal students were relocated to parts of the building that were not impacted like the auditorium. Several classrooms, hallways and the cafeteria are affected. The school district's Office of Facilities is working to resolve this issue.
They've been cleaning up and making repairs. Officials say the damage is in a controlled area near the cafeteria and they expect school to be open tomorrow.
