Man on trial for allegedly trapping, burning puppy on stove
DALLAS, TX (FOX 4) - Jurors on Thursday heard disturbing testimony in the trial of a Dallas man accused of severely burning his puppy.
Brad Boley, 61, is facing an animal cruelty charge for putting the 2-month-old Chihuahua named Buddy in a kennel and then placing the kennel on the stove.
It happened in February of 2014 at the Boley's condo on Bowser Avenue. A neighbor testified on Wednesday she heard piercing screaming sounds and crying that lasted almost five minutes.
Another neighbor, Jarod Foote, described on Wednesday hearing similar cries as he was parking his car. He followed the sound and then banged on the door because he saw smoke through a mail slot. Foote said he convinced Boley to take the little dog to the vet.
A veterinarian who performed the necropsy on the puppy, testified on Thursday the dog had 4th degree burns.
As she testified, the vet became so emotional the judge halted the trial briefly so she could regain her composure.
Jurors also watched Boley's interview with police. Boley told them his stove had been broken and that he loved the dog.
He also told police perhaps the dogs paw got through the mesh of the kennel and turned on the stove.
If convicted, Boley could face up to 10 years in prison.
