Mt Laurel officials plead put wipes in the trash, not the toilet

Residents in one Burlington County town is having serious plumbing problems. Officials are asking residents to watch what they flush.

They've become a part of our daily lives. They're clean, convenient and many of them flushable. Although, they may not vanish down some drains.

"You want me to tell you the truth, they don't flush," said Steve Dekle.

Maybe they don't flush everywhere and that's why Mount Laurel Municipal Utility officials posted the dirty truth of what's shutting down their Larchmont pump station and causing hazardous spilling out into the intersection at Hartford and Union Mill Road.

"This year, at least twice," said Steven Dekle, a Mount Laurel resident.

Their post has pictures and makes a plea to residents to stop flushing wipes.

"That's a mess. And, that's nasty," said Nigel Adams.

"It's gross," said Rajvi Vora.

"I use them all the time," Rita Vora said.

But, Rita doesn't flush them.

"Oh that's crazy," Dekle said.

Steven Dekle says his wife does flush them.

"And, I have to constantly plunge the toilet and I tell her, 'Stop putting them in the toilet.' And she does it anyway," Dekle said.

Clearly, she's not the only one.

"I always tell my patients to throw them in the trash, never in the toilet," Rajvi Vora said.
