Ocean City council addresses resident's plea to ban thongs on beach
A concerned resident's plea to ban thongs on public beaches recently captured the attention of city council members in Ocean City, New Jersey.
Michael DeVlieger, Ocean City's First Ward councilman, brought up the subject at a city council meeting in late July. Footage from the meeting includes its discussion on the matter, though the idea doesn't appear to have gained much traction.
"I had someone very sincerely write me an email regarding thongs on the beach," DeVlieger said. "The individual is offended by thongs on the beach and was asking that we create some sort of legislation to make it more modest."
"I wrestle with the thought of that," DeVlieger continued. "I mean, you know, it's America. Not everybody's going to agree with everybody else's taste."
New Jersey law prohibits thongs in state parks but allows them on public beaches.
