Off-duty officer under investigation for shooting relative

An off-duty Philadelphia police officer is accused of shooting a family member when a screaming match turned physical.

It happened at about 6:30pm Monday, in the officer's Northeast Philadelphia home, in the 2700 block of Taunton Street.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley reports no charges have been filed, and police have not released the names of anybody involved, or even the relationship between the officer and the relative.

Authorities say the officer shot the young man in the torso with a personal gun, not a service weapon.

At least two shots were fired.

The relative is in critical condition.

The officer was taken to internal affairs to be questioned.

There were two other people in the house but their names and relationships have not been released.

The officer works nearby, in the 15th police district.
