Officer suffers graze wound responding to dog attack in North Philadelphia

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - A Philadelphia police officer was struck in the leg by an apparent bullet ricochet while responding to a report of a vicious dog in North Philadelphia.

The incident happened on the 2900 block of Judson Street around 1 p.m. Friday.

Both the officer and the woman were taken to the hospital. FOX 29 cameras were there as 39th District Police Officer Kevin Fay, a 4-year veteran of the force, left Temple Hospital Friday evening.

The 80-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with multiple bite wounds and is being treated for her injuries. No word on her condition at this time.

Mayor Jim Kenney also arrived at the hospital after hearing what happened.

"She is an 80-year-old lady who didn't deserve this type of trauma at this time in her life so hopefully she'll be OK," he said.

Commissioner Richard Ross says the dog belonged in the home and was not a stray. The dog was killed on scene. It's unclear why it attacked the woman.
