Police: Brother and sister shot in the head in Fairhill

Police are investigating following a double shooting in Fairhill Tuesday afternoon.

For the family of Elizabeth and Tommie Arroyo the shock of their two relatives getting gunned down in the street in broad daylight was overwhelming.

"My sister-in-law she's a really good person--she's a Christian--she takes care of my mother-in-law every day," Esther Caycoya told FOX 29 News. "My thoughts and my prayers are really going out to my family."

"My sister, she's an angel. She takes care of my mom," the victim's brother told FOX 29.

Police say a gunman stepped onto the 100 block of Huntingdon Street just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and opened fire on Elizabeth and Tommie. They were rushed to Temple's Trauma Center in critical condition.

"She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time," her brother insisted.

Bullets hit both victims in the head and one blasted through this metal roll gate. People in a crowded neighborhood scrambled for cover.

East Detectives and crime scene investigators scoured the area for evidence and surveillance video of the shooting. There's no motive yet, but relatives and neighbors believe the victims were not the intended target.

"Apparently, they were shooting at somebody and she just happened to be there," the brother said.

Police did not offer a description of the gunman. Investigators say at least six shots were fired. No one else was injured. Surveillance cameras on the church across the street may have captured the shooting. Police continue to investigate.
