Police pursuit leads to deadly standoff in Bensalem

One person is dead and another is in custody after investigators say two armed men refused to exit their vehicle following a police chase Friday night in Bensalem.

Investigators say the situation is under control and there is no threat to the community.

What we know:

Investigators say the situation began around 5 p.m. when police stopped a vehicle for a window tint violation near Route 1 and Old Lincoln Highway.

Bensalem Public Safety Director William McVey told reporters that two people inside the vehicle were non-compliant with the officers, and indicated that they were armed and "refused to go back to prison."

The vehicle sped away from police, which lead to a pursuit involving the Bensalem Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police. The pursuit ended at Liberty gas station on Bristol Pike when police surrounded the suspect's vehicle.

Investigators say the suspects refused to exit their vehicle and tried to ram through the swarm of police vehicles. After two hours of negotiations with the barricaded suspects, a SWAT team gassed the vehicle to force their surrender.

At that time, McVey said one of the suspects pulled out a gun and the SWAT team opened fire. The 30-year-old suspect was pronounced dead and the suspect in the passenger's seat was uninjured and arrested.

What we don't know:

Authorities have not shared the identity of the person killed in the shooting.
