Police warn of 'Felony Lane Gang' in New Jersey

NEW JERSEY (WTXF) - Police are warning the public about a criminal gang stealing from unsuspecting women in New Jersey and they strike in a matter of seconds. They're known as the 'Felony Lane Gang'.

Andi Burbank admits the awful reality she's faced with after learning of an organized gang ripping off women when they're not looking.

"Always have your guard up. It's kind of sad actually," she told FOX 29.

That's because a group known as the 'Felony Lane Gang' is striking in the area. Police say they stole a woman's purse when she left her car for mere seconds at Holding Hands Daycare on Tomlin Station Road in Harrison Township, New Jersey.

Surveillance video shows the thief or thieves backing out of a parking spot right after reaching into the unlocked SUV.

Investigators say the victim walked her child into the daycare and came back to see the open door light on. She would soon realize her purse was gone.

Fortunately, Lt. Ron Cundey says the woman heard about the gang and canceled her credit cards before the group could live up its name in a bank's far lane.

"They take their checks and credit cards and stuff and then they go to the farthest lane away from the bank so the teller can't really see to match up the ID that they have," Lt. Cundy said.

Cops say the crime ring, which originated in South Florida specializes in identity theft. Police say they rent cars with tinted windows and watch the parking lots of gyms, schools and daycares waiting to strike.

According to police, this group not only targets women but occasionally recruit women to do their criminal bidding. Police say no matter what lock your cars and remove your valuables.
