Recent home burglaries across Delaware, Chester counties possibly connected: police
UPPER PROVIDENCE TWP., Pa. - Upper Providence Township police put out a warning about a group of burglars.
Before the burglars get inside, police say they are targeting and damaging popular doorbell cameras before breaking in to homes in Delaware and Chester Counties.
What we know:
On Thursday, Upper Providence Township Police shared a Facebook post to be on alert for "a rising number of burglaries in our surrounding communities to the north in both Delaware and Chester County."
No specific neighborhoods were mentioned in the latest alert, but police believe the same group who burglarized three Upper Providence properties late last year have returned to other jurisdictions based on how they operate.
The post did not mention which jurisdictions were hit.
Police think the group may be responsible for similar crimes in other jurisdictions.
Upper Providence detectives say the group of burglars is known to park in "distant locations and traverse through backyards and wood lines" while targeting homes.
What they're saying:
Sam McCutchin’s biggest problem on his block was shoveling his driveway after a snowfall. Crime around his quiet Delaware County neighborhood is nearly unheard of until now.
"I’m shocked. I’m shocked. I'm shocked it’s in this neighborhood. And people around here are pretty close" said McCutchin.
What you can do:
Police don’t know how burglaries the group has committed but they are urging residents to stay vigilant, lock their doors and use their home alarms.
Security experts say it’s a good idea to register your home doorbell camera with the local police department if they have a program. And if you see something suspicious while you’re at home or away, call 911 immediately.
