Safyre Says Thank You: Girl Who Lost Her Family in Fire Has Wish Granted

SCHENECTADY, NY (WTXF)- An 8-year-old from New York who lost her family in a fire that was intentionally set, had one wish for the holidays this year. She wanted Christmas cards from around the world.

Safyre Terry's story made its way around the world earlier this week, and thousands helped to grant the little girls heartwarming wish.

Safyre lives with her aunt, Liz Dodler. She bought her a tree to hang holiday cards on, and when the little girl saw the tree, KOCO 5 reports that she couldn't wait to fill it up.

Dodler posted a photo of Safyre standing next to the tree on Facebook in hopes of getting people to participate and send cards.

Now, Safyre and her aunt have taken to Facebook to give a sincere thank you in two separate posts, including a video.

MANY MANY THANKS TO ALL OF YOU 󾬐󾬗

In the video, Safyre explains that she has gotten more than enough cars to fill up her tree, and she will have to find another place to put them all!

I really think I am dehydrated from crying so much... This is absolutely amazing, it takes my breath away. We, my family...

A post from a family member on Safyre's Facebook page explains how the gernerosity of others has been a bright spot in a time of darkness for their family:

"I really think I am dehydrated from crying so much... This is absolutely amazing, it takes my breath away. We, my family and I have been through so much darkness of this this world. Then to see the most powerful BEAUTY of the world. The world coming together to make Safyre's wish come true is unfathomable."

According to KOCO 5, Safyre Terry's father and three younger siblings died in a fire caused by arson.

The young girl was found in the debris next to her father. He used his body to shield her from the flames.

However, Safyre suffered severe burns, and in the months following the fire she lost her right and hand and left foot.
