Suspects charged with luxury SUV theft may be linked to smash-and-grabs

Police say they have arrested and charged four men in connection with stealing a luxury SUV. Police are also looking into if the same men are linked to a series of smash-and-grabs.

Louis Mathis, Hasan Knight, Jermaine Ricky Johnson and Marquis Taylor are charged with theft receiving stolen property, according to authorities.

Police say on Sunday, November 13 around 6:30 p.m. three males entered the Macy's store in the Moorestown Mall. According to police, the men walked up to the Ralph Lauren polo display, grabbed several polo jackets, valued at $5,300, and the fled the location in a dark colored SUV. Macy's loss prevention personnel immediately put out the information to other Macy's stores in the area.

Investigators say around 7 p.m., a group of men went to the Macy's store at 13th & Market in Center City. The males walked in the store from the Market Street entrance and headed towards the polo display. The males observed store security at the door and immediately turned around and walked out of the store, police say. They allegedly returned about 20 minutes later and again observed store security and walked out of the store.

Police say the males then got into a black 2011 Infiniti QX56 SUV, with a black colored pa D.A.R.E. tag, which was found to be a privately owned vehicle, that was being serviced, and was stolen from Faulkner Infiniti in Willow Grove on November 6, 2016, during a burglary also taken during that burglary was a 2013 Infiniti G37 sedan, slate blue in color.

Authorities say on Monday, November 14 around 8:00 p.m., the same males returned to the Center City Macy's, and cased the Polo display for a moment; they exited the store and left in the same stolen Infiniti QX56 SUV.

On Tuesday, 22nd district police officers were in the area of 3200 Turner Street, where they observed the Infiniti QX56, parked unattended. The officers immediately notified FBI-Violent Crime Task-force personnel, and surveillance was set up on the vehicle. Later that evening, FBI-Violent Crime Task-force personnel observed four males enter that vehicle, according to police. The males were then stopped and taken in for further investigation. Charges are currently pending from Moorestown, NJ.
