On Wednesday, six shots were fired at 40th and Green in Mantua as kids were on the street when a 25-year-old was shot in the head and a teenager was wounded in the leg.

"During the course of the incident, there's a 16-year-old male on the block, we believe he's innocent bystander at this point. He's shot in the right knee and right hand," said Southwest Detectives Lt. John Walker.

Police acknowledge that the surprisingly warm weather may have contributed to the spike in shootings and murders. They say the way to combat a continuing rash of violence is to generate good intelligence information and put extra police out to protect potential trouble spots.

The wave of violence had everyone talking across the city; from Center City to North Philadelphia, from to Southwest Philadelphia to Point Breeze.

Bike officers were out in force in Center City after school as hundreds of teens communicating on social media agreed to meet and fight near City Hall. Police would have none of it. According to police, they arrested five and encouraged teens to return to their homes after several small fights broke out. However. the bigger problem for police is stopping the shootings and the murders.
