Metro New Orleans has received more snowfall since the start of meteorological winter than many cold-weather cities across the country, including Philadelphia, New York and Anchorage, Alaska.

The city of Philadelphia is conducting its annual count of the homeless population Wednesday night.

Many feel the brutal temperatures are too much burden to want to go outside to do anything fun But, those required to work outside have no choice when the region experiences temperature extremes.

The cold snap will begin to lessen on Thursday when temperatures will just about reach to freezing, and reach the 40s by Sunday.

As the historic winter storm that traveled across the southern U.S. heads east, it's leaving snowfall from Texas to North Carolina. This image was captured by a NOAA satellite showing several inches of snow left on the ground.

The heaviest snowfall in the Sunshine State occurred around Pensacola, where spotters reported measuring amounts of 5-12 inches through Tuesday evening.
