Dallas restaurant to donate $15k to group seeking tougher gun laws

A downtown Dallas restaurant is keeping its promise to donate part of the proceeds it earned during the NRA convention to a group seeking tougher gun laws.

A $15,000 check will be presented to Moms Demand Action during a special Mother's Day celebration at Ellen's on Sunday.

The southern comfort food restaurant ignited a controversy when it left a note at the bottom of each customer's receipt informing them that a portion of the week' proceeds will be donated to organizations dedicated to calling for tougher gun regulation.

The receipts went viral on social media last Friday, culminating with the NRA tweeting that convention attendees should steer clear of the restaurant.

Ellen's responded by tweaking its original message on the receipt by adding language that it sought "reasonable and effective gun regulations that protect citizens' 2nd Amendment rights and also help reduce needless gun violence."
