Dashcam released after man shot, killed by police following pursuit

Newly released dashcam footage gives us our first look at a deadly end to a car chase involving a murder suspect.

It happened last month in Millville, Cumberland County.

Dashcam footage shows a vehicle driven by 55-year-old Jose Pietri screech to a halt in the front of a row of apartments at a dead-end on Holly Berry Lane.

The noise woke up Orlando Gonzalez who is paralyzed and wheelchair-bound.

"I was just worried about my kids. In the condition I'm in. I got nervous and stuff. I really didn't know what was going on because it was so--so loud," he said.

Millville officer Joseph Dixon approaches the vehicle as a young girl is released or escapes from a passenger door. With the girl safely out of the way, Officer Dixon seems to motion Pietri to surrender. He does not-- instead--he seems to raise his right hand toward the officer.

Dixon begins firing-- 14 shots in all--and Pietri goes down. He was fatally wounded. Gonzalez's minivan still bears a broken taillight from the gun battle. His daughter heard the shots and saw the scene play out from an upstairs window.

Pietri was on the run as the sole suspect in an early morning shooting inside a home on Woodhaven Way in Winslow Township in which 47-year-old Derek White was killed and a 26-year-old woman was badly injured.

Neighbors are still in shock.
