Firefighters still on scene of Multi-alarm fire in Frankford

Philadelphia Fire crews have a multi- alarm fire in Philadelphia's Frankford neighborhood under control. Philadelphia OEM reports the fire has reached as many as 6-alarms Saturday morning.

The fire broke out shortly before 10:00 a.m. on the 4900 block of Griscom Street, near Penn and Orthodox Streets.

Six commercial properties on Frankford Avenue were also affected by the fire. Multiple collapses at buildings affected were reported.

One firefighter was transported to the hospital in stable condition, and a mother and child were also transported in stable condition.

Two other families displaced by the fire were taken to a shelter.

The fire was fought from an strictly exterior operation, with PECO, OEM, PEG, second alarmers, and Red Cross officials all on the scene. A cause has not been determined.

High winds caused the fire to spread one dwelling to another.

Now, cold is causing difficulty with water freezing on the ground.
