Heavier snowfall than expected takes many by surprise
JENKINTOWN, Pa. - Heavier than expected snow flurries catch many off guard as Montgomery County residents face covered roads and cars during rush hour.
Crews were out salting sidewalks throughout the evening making sure they are safe and walkable for businesses, customers and residents. But as the evening progressed, so did the snowfall. It left a pretty thick coating on roads.
Timeline:
Snow flurries predicted Friday turned out to be more than people thought. In Jenkintown, Montgomery County, people were surprised to see heavy flurries lasting for hours late into the evening. It was enough to dig out the brush to clear windows and to put down salt. Plow trucks were also driving around looking for parking lots to tidy up.
The bigger concern about snowfall is for this weekend when we could get more snowfall on Sunday when the Eagles play the Rams at the Linc.
What they're saying:
Casey Smothers had to clear his car windows of snow before leaving Abington Friends School. He wasn’t expecting a steady snowfall.
"I was going on a run and it just started. It was a little slippery, but it was nice," he said. Smothers likes the wintry mix.
"I like a little snow. It's kind of sad to have a winter that's just like wet and cold. So at least it's cold and pretty," he said.
Darlene Holman was on her way to a church meeting when she stopped to get coffee. "Scary. It appears to be icy so I'm like driving really slow," she said about her driving.
Eagles’ fans have weekend snowfall on their mind. Not Larry Reinhard though.
"Makes it more fun," he said.
