LeSean McCoy congratulates Saquon Barkley on breaking Eagles single-season rushing record
PHILADELPHIA - Former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy congratulated Saquon Barkley who on Sunday broke the team's record for single-season rushing yards.
"I want to give a super special shutout to my boy Saquon Barkley, also to the offensive line, for breaking my single-season Eagles franchise record," McCoy said.
Barkley surpassed McCoy's record of 1,607 yards set in 2013 in the fourth quarter of the team's 22-16 victory over the Carolina Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field.
"26 [Barkley's number], a lot of love coming from 25 [McCoy's Eagles number]," McCoy said.
He encouraged Barkley, an MVP favorite in his first season with the Eagles, to keep pushing for the all-time NFL single season rushing record of 2,105 yards held by Eric Dickerson.
"Fly Eagles Fly, I'll see you all in New Orleans," McCoy said, hinting at a possible Super Bowl appearance for the Eagles, who currently have the second-best record in the NFC.
With four more games left to play in the regular season, Barkley will have to rush for nearly 500 yards to reach Dickerson's record set back in 1984. The homestretch of the Eagles season includes games against the Steelers, Commanders, Cowboys and Giants.
