Mom praised after photo of her celebrating son being "different" goes viral

(WTXF) - A photo of a mother and son is going viral after the mother's message touched the hearts of hundreds of thousands across the globe.

The photo is featured on the popular Facebook page Humans of New York. It shows a mother and her young son crouching down and smiling for a picture on a New York City sidewalk.

"Luis is different. He's got two moms. He's an old soul. We live in the projects, and he doesn't know who Michael...

In the caption, the mother speaks about her son Luis, saying that he is "different."

"He's got two moms. He's an old soul. We live in the projects, and he doesn't know who Michael Jordan is, or anything about rap music," she said.

"He dresses himself in the morning. He chooses a button down and slacks, and sits in the kitchen with his legs crossed and reads the newspaper. But he's still got the heart of a child."

She continues to say that the day before the photo was taken, Luis took the five dollars he had for a Halloween costume and gave it to a boy he knew while walking to the store, choosing to buy a costume for him instead.

"I always tell him: 'You're different, Luis. And that's OK,'" she said.

She finished by saying that when Luis wants to play, she walks him all the way to Central Park, because she doesn't want him to change.
