Police investigate video of man appearing to be knocked off bike by car in SW Philly

Viral video of a man seemingly knocked off of his bicycle by car on the 5200 block of Florence Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia has the community talking, but police say they don't know if the video is real.

"Unbelievable. I can't believe somebody would actually hit somebody on a bike and from behind and video tape it. People crazy nowadays," Anthony Townsend told FOX 29.

"At this point, we're not quite sure if the video is authentic," Southwest Detectives Lt. John Walker said.

The video has Philadelphia Police talking as well. Lt. John Walker says there are several questions that raise scrutiny.

"If you look at the arms and the head, the head aren't moving, the arms aren't moving. And then, just before the vehicle strikes the individual he falls back onto the car, but the arms you don't see any hands on the arms," he said.

Sensitivities are heightened after a 34-year-old man was killed when his bike collided with an SUV in Spring Garden this past weekend with many already questioning bicycle safety on city streets.

Police say they have watched the video hundreds of times already and want to hear from the victim if there actually is one.

"At this point, we have no reports of auto accidents," Lt. Walker said. "We have no reports of hospital cases, but if there was somebody out there who was struck by a car we think it was posted on May 10th, please come forward and let us know."
