Police officer nearby leads to robbery suspects' arrests

A police officer in the right place at the right time is being credited with helping catch two robbery suspects.

Egg Harbor police say Officer Paul Janetta was on patrol in the Farmington area, on Tilton Road, at about 3am Saturday.

That's when he saw people running from a 7-Eleven store, down Robin Road, to a vehicle.

According to police, "Moments later, it was reported that a male and female had robbed the store brandishing a knife and demanding money. The clerk turned over an undetermined amount of cash and the suspects fled the scene on foot. The clerk was not injured in the robbery."

Officer Janetta followed the vehicle until other officers got to the area and stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of Davenport Elementary School.

Niklaus McClaran, 28, and Melissa Cooper, 28, were arrested. Both are from Egg Harbor Township.

Both were charged with robbery, terroristic threats, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, theft and conspiracy.

Both are being held in lieu of $75,000 full bail at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
