Police: Stolen dog attacks 4-year-old boy in Delaware; suspect arrested

FREDERICA, Del. (AP) - Police say a 4-year-old Delaware boy was "viciously attacked" by a dog stolen from a nearby home.

Delaware State Police say 62-year-old Roger Scarborough stole a dog from a Frederica home Sunday and fled with the dog restrained with a bungee cord. The boy was playing on a bicycle a few blocks away when police say the dog attacked him. The boy's mother and a friend were hurt struggling to pull the dog off the child.

Police say the boy was taken to a hospital with lacerations to his shoulder, face, neck and scalp. His mother was treated for hand fractures and a puncture wound to her leg. The friend was treated for hand lacerations.

Scarborough is charged with reckless endangering, trespassing and theft. The dog was to be quarantined.
