Police: Suspect shot by store owner in West Oak Lane

A man is in the hospital after police say he was shot while attempting to rob a restaurant in West Oak Lane late Thursday night.

Police say the 37-year-old suspect attempted to rob Peter's Chicken and Seafood on the 7300 block of North 19th Street.

During the encounter police say the store owner engaged the armed with a firearm of his own, exchanging approximately seven shots during the incident.

The suspect was shot two times, once in the chest and once in the thumb. He is in critical condition at Einstein Hospital.

The owner was not injured during the incident.

Investigators are continuing to investigate and have viewed surveillance video of the incident.
