Schools Debate the Necessity of Homework

PHILADELPHIA, PA (WTXF) A debate has popped up again as several school districts both nationally and in the Philadelphia area. Some schools are considering whether kids should do homework and if so how much they should have.

Radnor's new policy says homework shouldn't "interfere with a student's well-being." Princeton is experimenting with homework free days. College recruiter and education advocate Tom Butler stated that too much homework can actually hurt a student's college application process.

Some recent studies indicate that homework is overburdening and stressing kids out. However, one of Philadelphia's local Principals said that homework is a necessary part of learning.

Although complete bans on homework are unlikely, with so many districts researching the topic schools may see some policy changes in the future.
