Second teen charged with attempted murder, more after Rittenhouse shooting

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - There is now a second arrest after the attempted robbery and shooting, just over two weeks ago in Rittenhouse Square.

Police say investigators developed a second suspect and issued a warrant for 18-year-old Raeese Nasir. Monday, he turned himself in and was charged with attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault, robbery, and related offenses.

A 17-year-old, Mehdi Fraiji, was already charged with attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault, robbery, violations of the Uniform Firearms Act, possessing an instrument of crime, and related offenses. He turned himself in on Oct. 22.

Police say on Oct. 18, at about 9:30pm, officers on foot patrol around 18th and Walnut streets heard multiple gunshots coming from inside Rittenhouse Square.

When they got there, several people came running out. One told officers there was a shooting victim in the middle of the park and took them to the victim lying on the ground, bleeding from his right shoulder and stomach area.

The 39-year-old man was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Investigators learned a 17-year-old approached two witnesses, along with at least one other male person. Then, they announced a robbery and the victim tried to stop it.

That's when they say the 17-year-old male took the gun from the other suspect and fired numerous shots, hitting the victim multiple times.

They got away without taking anything.

Police were able to identify Fraiji and then Nasir.
