UPenn students targeted in threatening scam, police say

Authorities at the University of Pennsylvania are warning students of a threatening email and text messaging scam.

In the past two weeks, Penn Police say they have received multiple reports of individuals receiving text messages or emails claiming that the sender has been hired by someone to kill the recipient or a member of the recipient's family.

The sender then tells the recipient they must send money to prevent the violent acts from occurring.

Police say the sender often includes the email address of worldkiller100@outlook.com, and it appears to be a part of a national scam.

Authorities have asked anyone who receives the email or text message to contact Penn Police, and add that you should not respond to the sender.
