Wife of the late Herr Foods, Inc. founder passes away at 89

Nottingham, Pa. (WTXF) The wife of the late Herr Foods, Inc. founder and board member of Herr Foods has passed away at 89.

According to the company, Miriam H. Herr, board member of Herr Foods Inc., and wife of the late James S. Herr, founder of the Nottingham, Pennsylvania-based company and maker of Herr's® snack foods, died of heart and respiratory failure on September 4. She was 89.

"Mim," as she was well known by family and friends, was the matriarch of the Herr family and a pillar of the Herr's company since its founding in 1946. Today, the company operates under the leadership of their sons James M. Herr who currently serves as Executive Chairman, and Ed Herr, as President and CEO.

Born in Paradise, Pa., on November 29, 1926, she married James. S. Herr in 1947 and together they had five children: June Gunden, wife of Doug Gunden, Peachtree City, GA; James M. Herr, husband of Lois Herr, Nottingham, PA; Edwin Herr, Nottingham, PA; Gene Herr, husband of Terri Herr, Kirkwood, PA; and Martha Thomas, wife of Daryl Thomas, Kirkwood, PA. She is survived by 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Through the James S. Herr Foundation and other charitable organizations, Mim was a tireless advocate for evangelism around the world and had a heart for community service. She was an active member of Mount Vernon Christian Church in Kirkwood, Pa., for nearly 70 years.
