2-year-old recovering after carnival ride accident

GREELEY, CO-- A 2-year old girl was injured on a carnival ride in Colorado after slipping out of her seat and getting pinned underneath, according to her family.

The carnival at the Greeley Stampede is a July 4th tradition.

"We like to take the kids on the rides and go eat the food," said Tiffany Montelongo.

And part of the fun is that the rides are supposed to feel scary.

"It's just little cars and they go in a circle," Tiffany explained.

But when the ride started, it turned out to be a lot scarier than it was meant to be.

"She had the seatbelt on. But she was still able to stand up so as soon as the ride started it jerked and she fell forward ," said Tiffany.

2-year-old Jazzlyn slipped out of her seat while the ride was running.

"I was just shocked. I didn't know what to do. I just screamed for him to stop the ride," Tiffany said.

Jazzlyn was rushed to the hospital where she was treated for cuts and bruises.

"The whole side of her face was scraped up and then she had tire marks all down her back her arm and then some on her legs," Tiffany explained.

She's okay but now her parents want answers about the ride's safety and seatbelts.

"I don't know if it just that it wasn't tight enough or it didn't work," said Tiffany.

The manager says children are unpredictable and this was just a freak accident.

"First of all, we have an outstanding safety record. We ride thousands if not millions of customers safely every year," said Alan Cockerham, manager of Carnival Americana.

According to the manager, there were no defective or broken parts on the ride and that it passed safety inspections before and after the incident.

Carnival Americana has agreed to pay all of Jazzlyn's medical bills stemming from the incident.
