Cops: Teen put newborn in trash to die, her mom helped

Authorities say a 19-year-old woman gave birth in the bathroom of the Mexican restaurant where she worked, and put the newborn into a trash bag.

Then, an employee who was taking out the trash noticed it was heavier than usual, dragged it across the parking lot, and discovered the baby boy when the bag tore and he fell out of the hole.

It happened last Wednesday at La Parilla in Greenville, S.C.

Police spokesman Johnathan Bragg said the baby's mother, Estela Ruiz-Gomez, is charged with homicide by child abuse. Authorities say her 41-year-old mother, Lorenza Rodriguez, faces charges of helping her daughter get rid of the baby.

FOX News has details of Ruiz-Gomez taking a break during her shift bussing tables, complaining of a stomach ache, and how her mother and the baby's father were both at the restaurant.

Authorities were called and the baby was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The coroner says the child would've likely survived, had he not been put in the trash.
