What we know:

Officers tried to capture the peacock but were unsuccessful, according to police.

Wildlife experts told police the bird may roam the area but is likely to return home on its own.

Police say residents should not try to catch the peacock themselves, as it can become aggressive during this time of year.

Anyone who knows the owner is asked to contact Lower Moreland police, so the bird can be safely reunited with its family.

Lower Moreland police are monitoring the situation and will continue to work with wildlife experts as needed.

What's next:

Police will keep an eye on the area and ask for the public’s help in identifying the owner.

Residents are encouraged to report any sightings but to avoid approaching the bird.

What we don't know:

It is not clear who owns the peacock or how it got loose. Police have not said if there have been any previous sightings in the area.
