Police: 12-year-old boy dies after being struck by SEPTA bus

Police say a 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by a SEPTA bus on the 4900 block of Torresdale Avenue in Frankford after he ran into the street.

It happened around 3 p.m. Friday

Witnesses say it all happened so fast when the 6th grader ran into the street just as the 25 bus was moving southbound in front of Harding Junior High.

Police haven't yet said how fast the SEPTA bus was traveling, but school officials say there are posted speed restrictions of 15 miles per hour two times a day.

"That's why you have the signs that make clear what the speed limit is during times of arrival and dismissal," Philadelphia School District Spokesperson Lee Whack said.

The SEPTA bus was driven away as part of the investigation.

All the teachers and parents ran and gave him CPR and they put a sweater under his head.

"Our hearts prayers and thoughts are feelings are all with the family of this young boy," Whack said.

The identity of the boy has not been released.
