Police Apologize to Family After Cop Fatally Shot Their Dog in Front of Them
(INSIDE EDITION)- Shocking surveillance video shows a Florida cop shooting a dog that runs out the front door of a house.
The Florida City officer had knocked after seeing a car parked in the driving with its doors open, police said.
The family was distraught at the death of their beloved Duchess, a pit bull-mix.
But a police dog trainer Mike D'Abruzzo told INSIDE EDITION "The police officer did nothing wrong." If the cop hadn't fired, he would likely have been bitten, D'Abruzzo said.
But the officer has been placed on administrative leave, police said.
A department spokesman visited the family to apologize, authorities.
