Police: Man threatens woman with hammer in Delaware

Police say a 31-year-old woman snapped a terrifying photo of a stranger yelling at her to get out of her car. Cops say he was holding a hammer and that he was using it to threaten the woman.

It happened Sunday afternoon just after 4:30 p.m.

Delaware State Police say the woman was shopping in Wilmington at a Halloween store on Kirkwood Highway. She says she noticed a man acting strangely, which made her uncomfortable. The shopper followed her instincts and drove off.

Authorities say the man followed the woman in his gray or brown Ford Explorer. Eventually, police say he blocked her into a parking space at a Wawa on Limestone Road.

Troopers say the suspect started banging on the woman's window. They say when she wouldn't budge, the guy went and got that hammer from his car. She thinks he was trying to scare her into opening the door. Monday evening shoppers at the busy convenience store applauded the victim for staying calm.

Anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the pictured suspect is asked to contact Cpl. J. Jefferson at Troop 6 by calling 302-633-5000.
