Auckland Library Shocked as Patron Returns Book Over 68 Years Late

A wonderful customer came to see us with a confession today! As a child she was a patron of Epsom Library until she moved out of Auckland - and accidentally took a library book with her! Today she finally managed to return it to us. It's a fair few years overdue but in excellent well-read condition. Have you got a library confession you want to get off your chest? (STORYFUL) Maori Myths and Legendary Tales must be a great read, judging by the reticence of a library member to return it to Epsom Community Library in Auckland, New Zealand, having checked it out in December 1947.

A Facebook post on Thursday from the library told how "A wonderful customer came to see us with a confession today! As a child she was a patron of Epsom Library until she moved out of Auckland - and accidentally took a library book with her!"

With it finally returned on April 28, the Library's post on the matter went viral, with many trying to figure out the astronomical late fee (which was waived). Additional images of the book and related posts are included below.

Writer Caroline Barron, whose father was a patron of the library at the time the book was checked out, shared two additional images of the book on her Instagram profile.
