Man shot in online deal turned robbery in Overbrook

A man is in the hospital after police say he was shot after meeting with a stranger to buy a cell phone in Overbrook late Wednesday night.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of a Rite Aid at 63rd and Lebanon Streets around 11:00 p.m.

Police say the 22-year-old Delaware County man had arranged to meet with someone in order to buy an iPhone.

When the victim and his girlfriend met with the suspect, police say the suspect told him the price, and held the victim at gunpoint and demanded the money. The victim and suspect struggled, before the suspect fired a shot at the victim, striking him once in the leg.

Police say the victim was able to drive himself and his girlfriend to a safe area to get help and call police.

Authorities recommend these types of deals are made during daylight hours or at a police station.
