Officials: Report of Needles in Halloween Candy Unfounded

Authorities in Chester County have determined that previous a report of sewing needles found in candy in Kennett Square, is unfounded.

According to the county Prosecutor's officer, both the children and parents have now recanted their statements.

Police Kennett Square said a "needle-type item" was reported inside wrapped candy bars given to five children last Saturday.

Investigators said Sunday the candy and packaging containing the objects have been submitted for examination. They urged parents to check all candy their children were given and any leftover candy bought to give to trick-or-treaters.

Officials are expected to release more details on their investigation Friday, and have not said if anyone would face charges for filing false reports.
