Sixers mum as Philly teams congratulate Eagles on Super Bowl berth
The 76ers were noticeably quiet on social media after the Eagles clinched a Super Bowl berth on Sunday. Some have wondered if the Sixers' silence was directed by team owner Josh Harris, who also owns the Washington Commanders who the Eagles blew out 55-23 in the NFC Championship game.
PHILADELPHIA - Where was the brotherly love?
Fans noticed the Sixers were the only Philly sports team that didn't congratulate the Eagles on their NFC Championship win over the Washington Commanders immediately following Sunday's game.
The Sixers' silence had made some wonder if it had anything to do with team owner Josh Harris, who is also the majority owner of the Commanders.
What we know:
Josh Harris, who has co-owned the 76ers since 2011 with Harris-Blitzer Sports and Entertainment, was caught in the middle of two sports cities on Sunday.
Harris spearheaded a group that purchased the Washington Commanders in 2023 from controversial former owner Daniel Snyder for a record $6.05B.
The Eagles manhandled the Commanders in Sunday's NFC Championship game, leading Philly's sports teams to congratulate the Birds on their Super Bowl berth.
The Sixers, however, remained quiet as the city reveled in its second trip to the Super Bowl in three seasons.
What they're saying:
Philadelphia's sports teams didn't hold back their excitement for the Eagles NFC Championship win on Sunday.
The Phillies quickly posted a picture of Bryce Harper in an Eagles' jersey with the caption "GO BIRDSSSSSS."
The Flyers chimed in with an all-caps caption of their own: "GO BIRDS, SAY IT BACK!"
The Philadelphia Union, the PLL's Philadelphia Waterdogs, and the Philadelphia Wings also shouted out the Eagles' big win.
As for the 76ers, they waited to until Tuesday night to congratulate the Eagles both in person, and on social media. The Sixers hosted several members of the Eagles at Tuesday night's home game against the Los Angeles Lakers, and several players handled the ceremonial bell ringing before the game.
